The Gravewatchers

The boy rubbed his red nose and blew into his hands to warm them. Everything was unfamiliar this far into the graveyard.  Up ahead was a ruined archway, barely standing. Through the threshold he could see hooded and masked figures moving with focus, unknowing or uncaring of the things happening around them. But one stopped to stare for a moment, almost beckoning the boy to follow. 

What would become of him if he stepped through? Inside he knew that if he passed through he would never be the same. Certain only in his doubt, he took a step forward.
